Garda Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Target Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not actual military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or the Comune (Municipality) police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the Carabinieri— just dial 112— as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

after obtaining money, ceases to be visible or contactable.
