African elephants arrive at Bussolengo’s Natura Viva Park
Two African lungfish, also known as “fish with lungs,” have been introduced at Natura Viva park in Bussolengo. Currently housed in the House of Dragons exhibit, these species can breathe underwater through gills and in the absence of water by estivating in the mud, forming a cocoon to survive dry seasons for several months.
The lungfish inhabit a vegetated aquarium where they rest on branches or rocks and surface to breathe. They move slowly with eel-like undulations, using their thin fins for navigation among the substrate and vegetation. They are displayed alongside other species such as giant anacondas, giant otters, giant turtles, and Komodo dragons.
