Desenzano Establishes Fisheries Advisory Board to Enhance Fishery Management and Conservation
The Fisheries Advisory Board was inaugurated on April 16 in Desenzano, Italy, marking the start of its role in managing fishing activities and protecting aquatic resources in the region. Led by regional ministers Alessandro Beduschi (Lombardy) and Dario Bond (Veneto), the body includes representatives from professional and recreational fishing associations, environmental groups, local municipalities, and regional authorities from Lombardy, Veneto, and Trento.
Current initiatives include a 30-month interregional study on aquatic biodiversity, funded with approximately €800,000, utilizing environmental DNA (eDNA) techniques to monitor species such as coregonus and carp, and assess coregonus self-sustainability and hatchery roles. The meeting also addressed issues like silurus management and cormorant control, with Veneto allocating €100,000 to support fishermen and collaborating to reactivate the Bardolino fish hatchery.
