Trentino to Trial Bow Hunting for Wild Boar From 2027

The provincial council of Trento has updated the rules for wild boar control, introducing an experimental bow program and a new “targeted control” method to curb the spread of the species and damage to agricultural crops. The decision, proposed by the provincial forestry, hunting and fishing assessor, also reiterates concern about African swine fever in Europe.

Under the measure, bow use will be authorized experimentally starting in 2027, with authorization tied to obtaining certification as a wild boar controller. The targeted control approach allows the Trentino Forest Corps to organize operations using licensed hunters, with coordination handled by Corps staff; it will apply across the province, mainly in “zero-density” areas, with exemptions from hunting times and periods. Management of activities in the “containment area” remains the responsibility of the managing authority.
