Valli Fire: New Ordinance Keeps Key Measures in Place in Lonato
The mayor of Mantova, Nicola Bianchi, has signed ordinance 217 following the July 12 fire at the Valli Spa plant in Via Mantova Traversa Prima, updating the emergency rules for residents and businesses within one kilometer of the site. The decision came after a technical meeting on July 15 with the Municipality, ARPA, ATS, the Fire Brigade, the Province, and local law enforcement.
The Municipality said the most critical phase of the incident is over, while site inspections and environmental monitoring continue. Early air sampling found substances linked to the combustion of materials involved, but the available data do not yet establish a regulatory air-quality limit or a directly applicable health threshold; further analyses are expected to complete the assessment.
Under ordinance 217, the requirement to keep windows closed is no longer in place, and no specific restrictions are indicated for pets such as dogs and cats. However, poultry and other farm animals must remain indoors, and people and activities in the one-kilometer radius are still barred from consuming food or water left outside and potentially exposed to ash and particulate matter. The order also reiterates guidance not to eat homegrown fruit and vegetables until further updates, to protect stored supplies for people and animals, and to clean air-conditioning and air-treatment filters, with measures remaining in effect pending the completion of technical evaluations.
