Padenghe Welcomes a New Look for Via Chiesa and Piazza Caduti

Padenghe sul Garda will renew parts of its historic center with a redevelopment project affecting Via Chiesa and Piazza Caduti. The plan was presented on Wednesday, September 2, in the municipal council hall, with Mayor Albino Zuliani, the city council, municipal technicians, designer Matteo Defendini, and representatives from Acque Bresciane in attendance. Work on Via Chiesa is scheduled to start in October 2026, while construction in Piazza Caduti will begin in autumn 2027.

For Via Chiesa, the first phase includes the complete replacement of the water main, covering about 170 meters of pipes, along with updates to both public and private connections. The project also calls for checks on links to the sewer system to support the separation of clear, stormwater, and foul water; the sewer network is considered in good condition, while any issues with internal systems would need to be fixed by property owners. Road resurfacing will be redone in porphyry similar to the current material, with pedestrian-safety improvements such as illuminated crosswalk markers and movable barriers, plus the removal of some non-compliant parking spaces to help moderate traffic.

Piazza Caduti is the more complex phase, with resurfacing, the creation of two new parking areas, and a new meeting space in front of the church featuring a removable double circular bench around a symbolic element. Urban furnishings will be renewed using stone materials coordinated with the existing paving. The project schedule will be published by October after the works are awarded, and mitigation measures are planned during construction, including periodic temporary asphalt, wooden walkways to maintain access to homes and businesses, and advance notices for any water-supply interruptions; increasing greenery in Piazza Caduti was also raised and remains under consideration by the administration.
