Sirmione Approves General Variant to PGT, Rejects 180 Amendments

The municipal administration of **Sirmione** says it has confirmed the correctness of the process for adopting the **new General Variant to the PGT (Urban Planning Plan)** after recent controversy. The adoption was approved by the **City Council on 29 July 2026** through **resolution no. 34**, a step the town describes as overdue by more than six years and aimed at setting clear, sustainable rules for local development.

During the council sitting, **180 amendments** were submitted by opposition groups. The administration said it acted in line with current regulations and the Council’s rules, noting that many proposals involved technical planning documents without the required technical and legal opinions or the prior review by the competent offices. To avoid delaying the procedure or restarting it—at additional costs to the community—those amendments were reclassified as **“observations”** under **Lombardy Regional Law no. 12/2005**, allowing the plan’s update process to continue.

The Council also **rejected a motion for review in self-correction (autotutela)**, arguing there was no need to postpone further an urban planning instrument awaited for years. The administration said the next phase—where observations will be submitted—follows the regional law framework to let citizens, professionals and minority groups propose changes. **Deputy Mayor Maurizio Ferrari** said Sirmione needs a modern planning tool and urged minorities to move beyond “instrumental” disputes and contribute constructively during the observations stage.
