Sirmione’s PGT Update: Administration Says Process Was Properly Followed

The municipal administration of Sirmione has responded to press reports on the adoption process for the “Variante Generale” to the local land-use plan (PGT), stating that the procedure was legitimate and transparent. The new PGT was adopted by the City Council on **29 July**, through **resolution no. 34**, after more than six years of waiting, with the administration saying the plan is needed to provide clear, sustainable and updated rules for territorial development.

On the issue of **180 amendments** submitted by opposition groups shortly before the council session, the administration says it followed current regulations and the council’s rules. It claims the proposals made substantial changes to technical documents without the required technical-legal opinions and without prior review by the competent offices, and therefore they were reclassified as **observations** under **Lombardy Regional Law no. 12/2005** to avoid procedural delays and the need to restart the entire process at significant public cost. The administration also confirmed it rejected a motion for review in “autotutela” at the last council meeting, saying it did not want to postpone further a strategic plan the community has awaited for years.

The administration reiterated that the PGT process remains **open and participatory**, with the post-adoption **observations phase**—as provided for by regional law—allowing citizens, technicians and opposition members to submit proposals for improvement. Each observation will be examined individually with technical support and the **VAS** before final approval. Vice Mayor **Maurizio Ferrari** said Sirmione needs a modern planning tool and urged opposition groups to move beyond “instrumental” disputes and contribute constructively during the observations stage.
