The Casa del Podestà in Lonato del Garda (Bs) will participate in the National Days of the Houses of Illustrious Figures, which will take place on April 6th and 7th. These days are dedicated to places that preserve the memory and legacy of great historical figures and are promoted by the National Association of Memory Houses. The Casa del Podestà is one of the Italian residences that will participate in the event.
Restored by the Brescia architect Antonio Tagliaferri at the request of Senator Ugo Da Como, the Casa del Podestà has been a National Monument since 1912 and is considered one of the most fascinating House Museums in Northern Italy. The residence houses over twenty rooms with thousands of precious antique objects, including paintings, sculptures, wooden furniture, majolica, glassware, and bronzes. Among the treasures are also three monumental fresco fragments by Girolamo Romanino.
What makes a visit to the Ugo Da Como Foundation unique is the presence of one of the most important private libraries in Italy. Senator Ugo Da Como was a passionate collector and bibliophile, and his residence houses over 52,000 books, including manuscripts, illuminated manuscripts, incunabula, and sixteenth-century editions.
During this period, the Casa del Podestà also hosts the exhibition “Nino Ferrari. The art of metal between tradition and modernity,” which showcases the objects created for the house by this great master of metalworking.
The visit to the Casa del Podestà can also be extended to the Venetian Visconti Fortress, part of the monumental complex of the Ugo Da Como Foundation, where the exhibition “Piranesi | Basilico – Views of Rome” is set up, comparing Gabriele Basilico’s views of Rome with the engravings by Giambattista Piranesi preserved in the Luigi Nocivelli Collection.
The Casa del Podestà is open every day from 10 am to 6 pm, and the guided tour includes both the House Museum and the exhibition. Reservation is recommended via email or phone.
