After approximately 70 years, the Salionze Dam, a crucial regulator of the SARCA-GARDA-MINCIO-MANTOVA LAKES hydraulic system, has undergone a significant infrastructural intervention. Thanks to the Interregional Agency for the Po River (AIPO) and the support of the Lombardy and Veneto Regions, as well as the Autonomous Province of Trento, the old sluice gates have been replaced with new modern structures, enhancing hydraulic safety and the management of Lake Garda’s water levels.

This intervention, financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), represents a strategic investment for the area, aimed at ensuring the stability of the most important water basin in Italy and Europe.

A project supported by institutions

The president of the Garda Community and senator of the Republic, Mariastella Gelmini, emphasized the importance of the project: “This is an important and strategic infrastructural intervention for hydraulic safety and the management of Lake Garda’s water levels. Thanks to the Presidents of the Lombardy and Veneto Regions and the Autonomous Province of Trento, who, through their organization AIPO, have made excellent investments and plans with PNRR funds for our Garda basin, which I strongly supported during my term as Minister in the Deaghi Government, for the hydraulic safety and water management of the most significant freshwater basin in Italy and Europe.”

With these new infrastructures, the water management of the lake will be more efficient, benefiting the ecosystem, navigation, agriculture, and the safety of the lakeside communities.
