In Lazise, a man was arrested while attempting to steal two high-value bicycles from a playground. The timely intervention of the Carabinieri allowed the thief to be caught and the bicycles to be returned to the owner.
On the afternoon of Friday, the 21st, the Carabinieri of the Lazise Station arrested a 41-year-old Italian man, who was already known to the authorities, for aggravated theft and possession of altered keys and lock picks without justification. This all happened thanks to the report of a citizen who had noticed the man tampering with some bicycles secured to a rack inside the city center playground.
The suspicious behavior of the man did not go unnoticed by a private citizen who promptly alerted the Carabinieri. The officers quickly intervened in the playground, finding the 41-year-old attempting to remove two bicycles locked with padlocks. The bicycles, with an estimated total value of around 7,000 euros, were immediately returned to the rightful owner, who was on vacation in Lazise.
The man was arrested in flagrante delicto for attempted aggravated theft. After the bureaucratic formalities at the Carabinieri Company of Peschiera del Garda, the thief was held in the secure rooms awaiting the provisions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Verona.
The next morning after the arrest, the 41-year-old appeared before the Judge of the Verona Court, who validated the arrest and ordered the precautionary measure of mandatory reporting to the Judicial Police. The hearing was postponed to September 2024.
