Brescia Begins Demolition of First SIN Caffaro Building and Launches Remediation

Demolition of the first building at Brescia-Caffaro SIN site began on February 13, marking the start of remediation and decommissioning activities. The project, managed by Greenthesis S.p.A., follows site preparation that began in October 2025 and involves testing advanced soil treatment technologies such as in-situ chemical oxidation and vapor extraction, with completion expected by 2030.

Key officials, including Lombardia’s Environment Minister Giorgio Maione, Brescia Mayor Laura Castelletti, and Special Commissioner Mauro Fasano, attended the event. The remediation plan also includes installing additional hydraulic barriers and monitoring wells, coordinated with regional authorities, ARPA, ATS, Ersaf, and local municipalities.
