The tramway between Brescia and Lake Garda takes shape with a project worth 722 million. The prefeasibility study for the construction of the tramway connecting Brescia to Villanuova sul Clisi and Roè Volciano was presented at Palazzo Broletto, featuring eleven stations along a route of nearly 22 kilometers. The Province of Brescia aims to transform public transport through this new infrastructure, with the goal of reaching over 10 million passengers in the first year of operation. The meeting was attended by provincial president Emanuele Moraschini and the mayors of the involved municipalities, highlighting the importance of sustainable mobility to improve the quality of life in the region.
The project, developed in collaboration with the University of Brescia, envisions an electrically powered tramway on a protected infrastructure, designed to compete with the travel times of private cars. With an estimated cost of around 722 million euros, analysts predict that the economic benefits will outweigh the costs in all considered scenarios. It is estimated that about 5 million passengers will come from the current intercity bus network, while another 4 million will abandon their cars to use the new service, indicating a growing confidence in local public transport.
