Carabinieri Impersonators Target Garda Area in Phone Scam

The perpetrators impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hotel owners, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to police magazines of the force.

These are not actual military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance authorities, the police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have no connection to law enforcement.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who, after obtaining money, disappears.
