In recent months, Desenzano has witnessed a significant rise in concerns related to climate change affecting Lake Garda. A recent study commissioned by the municipality from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore highlights a substantial decrease in precipitation, forecasting a 15% drop in spring and a 45% decline in summer. This scenario entails an average temperature increase of 5 degrees and an extension of summer drought periods, which could rise by 45%. The local population is particularly alarmed: over half of those surveyed express anxiety about environmental consequences, fearing changes in rainfall patterns and challenges in agricultural production.

The study also underscores citizens’ awareness regarding the causes of climate change, with 61% acknowledging the role of greenhouse gas emissions. However, a certain level of informational confusion persists, as 70% of the population has experienced material damage due to extreme weather events, such as the hailstorm that occurred in July 2023. These findings confirm the urgency of addressing climate change issues to prevent the area from facing progressive desertification.
