The Local Police of Salò has announced the closure of the branch located at the bus station, a service inaugurated in 2021. This decision was communicated by the administration led by Mayor Francesco Cagnini, who emphasized that the office has never met the initial expectations.
Reasons for Closure
The lease for the use of the spaces under the portico in Largo Dante Alighieri will be terminated, as stated by the administration, which noted that the office had turned into merely a space for municipal messengers rather than maintaining an active surveillance function. “It was just an office,” Cagnini remarked, adding that “it is more serious to ensure effective oversight of the territory.”
New Security Strategies
The administration believes that it is more effective to concentrate resources to ensure an active and visible presence of law enforcement rather than having an isolated officer in a decentralized location. “The Local Police will continue to monitor the area around the station with particular attention to the most critical zones,” reiterated the mayor and the Security Councillor Roberto Novelli.
Dialogue with Merchants
Following the recent establishment of the new council, Novelli met with some local merchants to hear their needs and concerns regarding safety. Further meetings are expected to be scheduled in the coming months to strengthen this communication.
Summer Control Activities
During the summer period, coordinated interventions have been carried out in the area of Largo Dante Alighieri, including the deployment of canine units to ensure greater safety and control of the area. These initiatives are part of the local administration’s strategic plan to address public safety issues in the urban context.
