Two men, aged 30 and 36, have been reported free after the carabinieri discovered over 1,300 kilograms of copper cables and a significant amount of brass inside their van during a check in Calcinato. This operation is part of a broader initiative aimed at combating the frequent thefts of copper at construction sites and railway infrastructure in the area. Some of the recovered material has been identified as originating from a theft that occurred approximately two weeks ago at a high-speed train construction site.
The investigations, conducted by the Carabinieri Station in Calcinato, are ongoing to ascertain the source of the entire load and to uncover any connections to other similar incidents reported in the region. This intervention highlights the commitment of law enforcement to tackle the issue of copper theft, which has significant repercussions both economically and in terms of public service safety.
