The Teatro Sociale in Castiglione delle Stiviere is gearing up to kick off the 2024/2025 season with a highly anticipated event. On Thursday, October 31, at 9:00 PM, the comedy “Plaza Suite” written by the renowned author Neil Simon, translated by Roberta Conti, and directed by Ennio Coltorti, will take the stage. The performance will feature well-known actors Corrado Tedeschi and Debora Caprioglio, alongside Gianluca Delle Fontane, Andrea Bezzi, and Giulia Galizia.

The Plot of “Plaza Suite”

The play revolves around the stories of three different couples who find themselves in the same suite at the Plaza Hotel in New York. This symbolic location represents success and social fulfillment, but it also becomes the backdrop for embarrassing situations and relational conflicts.

The first act explores a marital crisis: a couple returns to the suite of their honeymoon in an attempt to rekindle the now-extinguished flame of their love. The second episode features two former classmates meeting clandestinely; he is a successful producer while she lives an apparently perfect life as the “model wife.” Finally, the third act offers hilarious moments with an elderly couple trying to convince their daughter to get married, but the situation takes a comedic turn when the young woman decides to lock herself in the bathroom on her wedding day.

The Humor and Depth of the Comedy

Neil Simon skillfully blends fun and the truths of life through his works. The misadventures of the characters not only elicit smiles but also provide a realistic glimpse into human relationships. The phrase “Sing and it will pass,” typical of popular wisdom, is here replaced by the invitation to laugh: “Laugh, laugh, laugh… and it will pass!”
