On Saturday, April 27th, the civic library of Riva del Garda will host Tea Vergani, author of the book “Delitti nel monastero di Arco: crimini sulle tracce dell’eresia medievale” (Crimes in the Monastery of Arco: Crimes on the Trail of Medieval Heresy). The hybrid novel combines a historical narrative set in the Late Middle Ages with a contemporary detective story, both set in the same location: Arco.
The first part of the story takes place in the years 1206-1210 and follows a group of monks who settle in the parish of Arco. One of the monks is a young man from Bologna who dedicates himself to prayer and isolation in a cave to redeem his dissolute youth. His illuminated manuscripts bring prestige to the monastic order, but the trafficking of these precious manuscripts is discovered, and the monks are forced to flee due to political and religious conflict in the valley.
The second part of the story takes place in the present day and follows a marshal of the Carabinieri transferred to Arco from Milan. Bored and unmotivated, he casually investigates several cases, including a crime linked to drug trafficking and the murder of a climber on a cliff in Arco. With the help of the townspeople and a girl with whom he begins a romantic relationship, the marshal manages to solve the cases, discovering that all the crimes are connected to the cave on the cliff of Arco.
The meeting with author Tea Vergani will take place at the civic library of Riva del Garda at 10:30 AM and admission is free. During the event, she will engage in a dialogue with Graziano Riccadonna.
The event is part of the series of meetings “Donne e uomini in cammino: eretici, soldati, filantropi, migranti” (Women and Men on a Journey: Heretics, Soldiers, Philanthropists, Migrants), organized by the civic library of Riva del Garda in collaboration with the Riccardo Pinter association. Each event in the series will propose an original and stimulating theme, accompanied by musical performances by students from the F.A. Bonporti Music Conservatory in Riva del Garda and readings by library volunteers.
Other upcoming events in the series include the presentation of the book “Daemonologie. Giacomo I Stuart e la stregoneria inglese” (Daemonology: James I Stuart and English Witchcraft) by Giada Rigatti on May 4th, the presentation of the book “Rocchetta 1916-1917: guerra e alpinismo” (Rocchetta 1916-1917: War and Mountaineering) by Marco Ischia on May 11th, the presentation of the book “La speranza che muove il mondo: umanità migrante” (The Hope that Moves the World: Migrant Humanity) by Vincenzo Passerini on May 18th, and a conference on the history of the RSA of Riva del Garda by Apsp Città di Riva, the Mnemoteca association of Basso Sarca, and Graziano Riccadonna on May 25th.
