A tragic incident has shaken Desenzano, where Fernando Velcu, a 28-year-old Romanian, has returned to prison charged with unintentional homicide following the death of Hackim Fawzi, a 46-year-old homeless Moroccan. The incident occurred on May 15 at the local train station during a quarrel that resulted in Fawzi suffering a severe blow to the back of his head. Although he was initially arrested and later released due to lack of evidence, the Brescia investigating judge has today issued a new preventive custody order based on the findings of the autopsy, which revealed injuries consistent with an assault rather than an accidental fall.
The carabinieri of the Operational Unit of the Desenzano Company executed the arrest in the late morning of June 11, notifying the young man of the precautionary measure requested by the prosecutor handling the case. Investigations are ongoing to further clarify the circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation and the dynamics that led to the victim’s death, which occurred in the hospital following the necessary surgical intervention for the injuries sustained.
