On July 31, 2024, the Visconti-Venetian Fortress of Lonato del Garda will be the stage for the opera buffa “Don Pasquale” by Gaetano Donizetti. This event marks a highlight in the series of summer events that animate the city.
The summer season in Lonato del Garda began with great success, closing the month of June with the traditional Festival of Saint John the Baptist, now in its seventeenth edition.
July opens with a film festival entitled “Cinema in the Garden”. Promoted by the Ugo da Como Foundation and the Friends of the Ugo da Como Foundation Association, this initiative takes place every Thursday at 9:30 pm in the gardens of the Casa del Podestà. The programming continues with musical events such as “Soul Express” by Max Carella and a concert organized by the Lonato del Garda Music Corps, offering a variety of music to satisfy all tastes.
The end of the month will see the Bottega della Lirica present the opera buffa in three acts, “Don Pasquale,” with a libretto written by Giovanni Ruffini. The performance will take place on Wednesday, July 31 at 9:30 pm in the evocative setting of the Visconti-Venetian Fortress.
This production marks the first staging of the opera for the Bottega della Lirica, under the artistic direction of Maestro Anna Brandolini. A distinctive element is the collaboration with the renowned bass Roberto Scandiuzzi, who personally directed the staging of the opera. Scandiuzzi has adapted the stage action to the architectural structure of the fortress, ensuring that each artist can harmoniously merge into their character and the surrounding natural environment.
Another significant contribution will come from the Choir of the City of Piazzola sul Brenta, directed by Paolo Piana.
The performers of the leading roles were selected during auditions held in April at Palazzo Zambelli (Municipal Library). In preparation for the performance, the artists will participate in professional courses and preparatory workshops in the weeks leading up to the event.
Seat reservations are already open, and tickets can be purchased through the Bottega della Lirica website. Prices range from 16 to 26 euros depending on the chosen sector.
