This morning, Thursday, May 1st, Mauro Lazzarini and Rudi Amati kicked off their Everesting challenge on Pizzocolo, starting at 8 AM from the Barbarano gym in Salò. The two ultra-trail runners have set themselves the goal of climbing the local mountain eight times, accumulating a total elevation gain of 8,848 meters, equivalent to the height of Everest. The chosen route involves ascending to the base of Pizzocolo via trails well known to the two athletes.
The challenge is organized by GS Montegargnano and entails that participants are transported back to Barbarano by a 4×4 Panda after reaching the summit each time. Amati has estimated a time of about three hours for each of the eight ascents and descents, aiming to complete the endeavor by Friday morning. Enthusiasts can follow the event through Rudi Amati’s Instagram profile and join them along the route, even if just for short stretches.
