Exploitation of labor in Goito: agricultural workers without rights and safety

A new case of labor exploitation in Goito has garnered attention in recent hours, following the discovery by the Carabinieri of the Labor Inspectorate of seven irregular agricultural workers in a company specializing in vegetable cultivation. The workers, four men and three women, were employed without contracts and forced to work eight hours a day with only one hour of break, lacking any protection from the heat. Their pay was dire: they were compensated “per piece,” earning an average of about 4 euros an hour, well below the 10 euros stipulated by national contracts.

Additionally, there was a complete absence of measures for workplace safety in agriculture, as the company had not prepared the mandatory technical documents and did not comply with regional regulations concerning outdoor work during the hottest hours. The owner of the business, a 31-year-old woman residing in the Brescia area, has been reported for serious labor violations. Authorities have announced that they will continue to closely monitor compliance with regulations in the agricultural sector to protect the most vulnerable workers from similar abuses.
