A **28-year-old Italian** man has been arrested by the Carabinieri of the Salò Company for **extortion against an elderly woman** and **identity theft**, in connection with a phone scam that occurred on September 24 in **Toscolano Maderno**. The man, posing as a member of law enforcement, contacted a 70-year-old woman, informing her that her son was involved in a serious accident and requesting a “bail” to prevent his arrest. He then showed up at her home pretending to be a lawyer, managing to steal approximately **€19,000 in cash** and some gold jewelry.
The investigations conducted by the military personnel of the Toscolano Maderno Station led to the identification of the scammer, who was arrested and transferred to San Vittore prison. An accomplice who acted as his driver has been reported while remaining at liberty. This incident highlights the vulnerability of the elderly to phone scams and the importance of vigilance from local authorities.
