Mantova – On Friday, June 21st, the prestigious Palazzo Ducale in Mantova will host a special event for the Festa della Musica (Music Festival). From 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, the Galleria dei Fiumi will be transformed into a musical setting thanks to a free concert open to all visitors and museum subscribers.

For the past year, Palazzo Ducale has been collaborating with the “Lucio Campiani” Conservatory of Mantova, transforming some of the museum’s spaces into areas dedicated to music study and concerts. This project has already given life to numerous cultural initiatives and will be celebrated during the summer solstice with a performance by Professor Stefano Carlini, a viola teacher.

Origins and Spread of the Festa della Musica

The Festa della Musica, which originated in France in 1982, is an event that promotes music without distinction of genre or practice. As explained by Professor Carlini, “The Festa della Musica encourages anyone to play wherever listening is allowed.” In Italy, this celebration took hold in 1995 and is supported by the Ministry of Culture through the Italian Association for the Promotion of the Festa della Musica (AIPFM) since 2016.

The main objective of the event is to spread music as a tool for integration and social cohesion. During this special day, professional and amateur musicians perform in streets, squares, schools, museums, historic courtyards, and even in unusual places such as hospitals and prisons.

Concert Program

The concert will feature several artists performing classical pieces:

– Franz Joseph Haydn: Duet Hob. XII n. 4 (1770) in C major for two barytons (transcription for violas)
– Ignace Pleyel: Duet op.8 n.2 in C major for two violas
– Ernesto Koehler: “Presto” in D minor op.33 n.6 for solo flute
– Enrico Polo: Studio-Sonata for solo viola (1945)
– Heinrich Ernst Kayser: “Gran Duo concertante” in B-flat major op.2 (1842) for clarinet and viola
– Claude Debussy: “Syrinx” (La flute de Pan) (1913) for solo flute
– Paul Juon: “Divertimento” in C major op.34 (1908) for clarinet and two violas
– Carl Philipp Stamitz: Duet I° in C major for two violas
