Garda Area Scam: Fake Police Calls Targeting Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hotel owners, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These individuals are not members of the armed forces but are scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after receiving the money, disappears.
