Garda Scam Alert: Fake Police Callers Offer Fraudulent Magazine Subscriptions
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering magazine subscriptions from the armed forces.
These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.
Recognizing the scams
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,
say they have money, and then disappear.
