Garda Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Target Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but con artists who, at different times, claim to belong to the finance, police, fire brigade, or municipal police departments.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the true Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

desire money and then disappear.
