Garda Scammers Pose as Police, Targeting Locals with Fake Magazine Offers

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to their magazines.

These are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance department, police force, firefighters, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

after obtaining money, disappear and do not show up again.
