Garda Scammers Pose as Police to Trick Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They pose as Carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not members of the armed forces, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, ordinary police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize the scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by individuals who,

after obtaining money, no longer appear on the scene.
