Garda Scams: Fake Police Calls Target Hoteliers and Business Owners

They impersonate carabinieri when making phone contacts with hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper parts of Garda, offering subscriptions to army magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, fire brigades, or municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

after receiving the money, disappear without a trace.
