Garda’s Youngest Councilor Davide Bendinelli Will Run for Mayor in 2023
Now it is official: the young provincial tourism councilor Davide Bendinelli will be the mayoral candidate for the anti-Timone list in the upcoming local elections.
The name and symbol of the coalition have also been confirmed: it will be a civic list called Progetto Garda, with an emblem featuring a stylized view of the Rocca overlooking Garda Gulf.
“This is a list that, around a shared project and administrative program, brings together all the alternative political experiences of Garda to the Timone,” explains Bendinelli.
The Candidate Team
It is known that the list of candidates supporting the young councilor has already been fully drafted, but Bendinelli is currently keeping it confidential.
What is certain is that his team will include former mayor Gustavo Bussinello and Dr. Gian Paolo Rossi, who has served as councilor twice in the past.
Also certainly on the list will be Antonio Pasotti, responsible for tourism within the executive of the Comunità del Garda (Pasotti was among other roles also a councilor in the first Comencini administration, later diverging from the political line of the Timone).
Instead, Vittorino Zanetti and Romano Maccari, the two “historic” leaders of Con Garda, the civic movement that has so far led the opposition to the Timone group, will not be part of the formation.
Statements and Expectations
Zanetti, some time ago, was also indicated by Con Garda as a possible mayoral candidate: “However, when the concrete possibility of a broad coalition led by Davide Bendinelli emerged —” explains the individual — “our group immediately joined, convinced of the validity of the project and the candidate, who also represents a clear break from the political opposition schemes that have characterized Garda’s public life in recent years.”
“It is obvious,” concludes Zanetti, “that at this point my direct involvement in the list for the municipal elections was no longer necessary.”
Biography and Current Role
Davide Bendinelli, a resident of Garda, is Italy’s youngest provincial councilor: he is twenty-seven years old.
He was elected to the Provincial Council as part of Forza Italia, and it was precisely the blue movement that announced in recent weeks the possibility of his direct involvement in the civic life of the lakeside town.
“I was born and raised here,” — Bendinelli stated in a press release from the Garda Chapter of Forza Italia — “and therefore I have a deep connection with this land, which in my view is not properly valued.”
Family Ties and Expectations
The young councilor is somewhat a “son of art”: his father Gustavo is an outgoing municipal councilor with Con Garda and has previously gained other administrative experiences.
Regarding the Con Garda council group, it is strongly believed that the list supporting Davide Bendinelli’s mayoral candidacy — according to rumors circulating in town — will also include outgoing councilors Pierluigi Lorenzini and Maria Luisa Brunelli.
