Garden of Delight Event Showcases Italian Botanic Heritage at Palazzo Bettoni-Cazzago
“The Garden of Delight.” No more fitting name could have been chosen for the event that, from Saturday to May 1st, will take place in the park of the splendid Palazzo Bettoni-Cazzago in Bogliaco. The lake setting, the beautiful villa, and the garden inspired by 18th-century canons will serve as the backdrop for an exhibition where plants and flowers are the true stars.
Following the example of similar initiatives, such as those held at the Palazzo Ducale di Colorno, the Castello di Masino, and the Villa Corsini di San Casciano, the conti Bettoni-Cazzago decided to open their “Garden of Delight.” Within it, visitors will find hundreds of precious specimens including citrus fruits, olive trees, roses, jasmines, clematis, peonies, and irises; not to mention hydrangeas, aquatic plants, and aromatic herbs.
Participants and organization
Numerous prestigious Italian producers will arrive in Bogliaco, demonstrating the quality of the event, which aims in some way to revive a botanical tradition— that of the Eighteenth Century— with the baroque layout of the palace representing one of its highest expressions.
The flower and fruit fair-organization is managed by studio Tortelli Frassoni, in collaboration with the Provincia di Brescia, the Comune di Gargnano, the Comunità Montana Parco Alto Garda, the Azienda di promozione turistica, the Garden Club, and the Fai.
Guided tours and institutional interventions
The Fai will oversee guided tours of the garden, which will take place every hour, describing the history and features of the noble palace. The Comunità Montana will organize tours of the lemon house at “Prà de la fam,” recently renovated.
At the event launch at Palazzo Martinengo di Brescia, Alberto Cavalli, president of the Province, stated that “this initiative enriches the image of Garda and enhances one of the most beautiful gardens and residences in Lombardia.” He also emphasized that local authorities responded without difficulties to the invitation and highlighted the national presence of Fondo Ambiente Italia in Bogliaco.
Speeches by public figures
Ermes Buffoli, provincial councilor for Tourism, recalled that the event will also be announced via SMS messaging: “This will aid in increasing awareness about Lake Garda and its extraordinary vegetation.”.
Bruno Faustini, president of the Comunità Montana Parco, focused on his organization’s commitment to a more comprehensive approach: the final goal is to create a book on the vegetational architectures of Garda, “an expression of man and his ability to craft tree scenographies of great charm.” Faustini also announced plans to promote a project aimed at enhancing lemon houses and an initiative dedicated to biodiversity.
Opening hours and gifts for participants
“The Garden of Delight” will be open on Saturday from 2 PM to 6 PM, on Sunday 29th from 10 AM to 12 PM and from 2 PM to 6 PM, and on Monday 30th and Tuesday, May 1st, from 10 AM to 5 PM. All members of Fai and Garden Club will receive a small pot of lily of the valley flowers as a gift.
