The Lombardy Region has officially awarded the title of “historic activity” to 591 new entrepreneurial entities, recognizing their longevity and deep connection to the territory. In this context, the province of Brescia stands out with 121 businesses that have received this prestigious recognition, 35 of which were supported in the application process by Confesercenti of Eastern Lombardy. This quality mark not only celebrates the resilience of local commerce but also values the family businesses that are a key attraction for tourism around the Lake Garda.
Criteria for Excellence
The recognition is aimed at shops, artisan workshops, and dining establishments that have been operating for at least forty years. To obtain the title, businesses must have maintained the same sign and product category throughout this period, as well as present historical elements such as their location or the presence of period furnishings and equipment. With the new appointments, the total number of recognized historic businesses in the Brescia area has risen to 687, demonstrating an entrepreneurial fabric capable of innovating while firmly maintaining its roots.
Contribution to the Economic and Social Fabric
Barbara Quaresmini, president of Confesercenti of Eastern Lombardy, expressed great satisfaction with the result: “This award symbolizes the recognition of the work and commitment of businesses that represent the beating heart of the economic and social fabric of Brescia, Lombardy, and Italy. In this room today are entities, often family-run, that have managed to survive many obstacles over time: among them, the ever-stronger competitors from international commerce. This is due to the ability of those who manage them to create positive experiences for their customers, fostering loyalty and ensuring seriousness and professionalism.“
Strategic Role on Lake Garda
For the Lake Garda area, the value of these businesses was highlighted by Andrea Maggioni, local representative of Confesercenti: “On Lake Garda, the commercial fabric is punctuated by family businesses that have managed to navigate wars, economic crises, technological revolutions, and social transformations without losing their essence. Behind every historic sign, there is a family, a generation, a community; there is a piece of Italy that has managed to stay strong, reinventing itself without betraying its origins. Confesercenti has always been by the side of these businesses, supporting them, representing them, and gathering their stories, needs, and daily challenges. Historic businesses do not just offer products and services but also experiences and memory. The regional recognition also has a significant impact on tourism. More and more international travelers are seeking authentic experiences, and historic businesses represent a natural attraction, helping to make Lake Garda a distinctive destination in the European landscape.“
Concrete Benefits for Awarded Businesses
Being included in the regional register of historic activities is not merely a symbolic value. Businesses that receive this title have the opportunity to access important grants and economic incentives. In this regard, Confesercenti expressed appreciation for the commitment of the Region and Councillor Guidesi, hoping that support policies for these entities will continue in the future.
