Lake Garda has recorded a water temperature increase of 1.5 degrees over the past decade, according to physics professor Roberto Battiston from the University of Trento. During a recent address, Battiston emphasized the urgency of reducing CO2 emissions to tackle climate change, highlighting that the rising temperatures pose a threat to aquatic ecosystems and life in the lake. He stated that the current situation requires a scientific and collective approach, comparing the need for concrete actions to those taken by CERN for scientific research.
Battiston warned that if swift action is not taken to abandon fossil fuels and invest in renewable energy, the consequences will be devastating for future generations. He proposed the idea of a “CERN for climate,” an initiative that would bring together scientists and resources to develop technologies capable of reducing atmospheric emissions and reversing the current trend. The pace at which climate change is occurring is unprecedented, making a coordinated global response urgent.
