A joint operation to address an environmental issue took place in Salò, where technicians from the Brescia department of Arpa Lombardia identified the source of a strong unpleasant odor affecting the area. The intervention was requested by the Fire Brigade, who were alerted by concerned citizens.
The source of the problem was traced back to a gasoline spill in the Madonna del Rio canal, which flows into the lake. According to preliminary investigations, the likely origin of the spill is a service station located near the Strada Statale 45 bis Gardesana Occidentale. A leak from an underground tank is suspected to be responsible for the contamination.
Measures Adopted to Mitigate Pollution
In response to the situation, the Arpa Lombardia department actively collaborated with the Fire Brigade, the municipality, and the oil company involved. Immediate measures were taken to contain and mitigate the impact on surface water pollution. Currently, the station operator is conducting further checks on the tank, which was recently subjected to periodic inspections.
Arpa technicians carried out sampling to analyze the composition of the spill and assess any negative effects on the quality of the surrounding soil and water.
