The 6th Wing of the Italian Air Force celebrated the 100+1 anniversary of the founding of the Air Force with an open day at Ghedi Airport. During the event, numerous activities were organized and several aircraft were displayed, offering visitors the opportunity to trace the hundred-year history of Italian Aviation.
The day culminated with a flying demonstration of Air Force aircraft, including Tornado, F35, and EFA. In addition, a presentation was organized on the national aerospace activities supported by the Air Force.
The presentation was moderated by Colonel Luca Giuseppe VITALITI, Commander of the 6th Wing, and was attended by personnel from the Space Situational Awareness center of the Aerospace Operations Command and the General Space Office of the Air Force General Staff. Representatives from the industry, specialized press, and space experts were also present.
During the presentation, Colonel VITALITI highlighted the memorable achievements of the Air Force in its 101 years of history. He emphasized how Italy projected itself into space through the San Marco Program, which sixty years ago allowed the country to independently launch its own satellite, making Italy the second space power in the world after the United States and the Soviet Union.
Building on the milestone achieved with the San Marco Program and the expertise gained through the Air Force’s space activities, Italy now ranks among the leading space powers. The country is engaged in the development of human flight capabilities, Space Situational Awareness, telecommunications, satellite management, and suborbital flight. Furthermore, it is working on the development of air-launched capabilities and stratospheric platforms.
Italy is thus looking to the future with optimism, projecting itself towards new prospects in the space sector thanks to the skills and experience acquired by the Air Force.
