Giulio Tonincelli, a photographer and videomaker from Salò, returned on November 20 to Kalongo, in northern Uganda, to create an important social documentary titled “You Are Not Alone,” which addresses the dramatic situation of children with physical and mental disabilities in a region where superstition leads to marginalization and, in some cases, violence. The project, which will conclude on December 22, is supported by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and the Ambrosoli Foundation, which manages the only hospital in the area. Tonincelli has previously worked on similar themes and aims to raise awareness among the public through a non-judgmental perspective on the realities faced by these families.
The crowdfunding campaign to finance the post-production of the documentary was launched alongside the filming. With the assistance of cinematographer Vladimir Motroi, Tonincelli hopes to provide insight into the complex issues surrounding disability in Uganda. The production is managed by Moonwalk Studio, co-founded by Tonincelli, which has already received international recognition for its previous works.
