In Lombardy, due to the prolonged heatwaves expected in the coming days, an urgent ordinance has been issued for the protection of workers. Signed by President Attilio Fontana, the ordinance will take effect from 00:01 on Wednesday, July 2, until September 15, 2025, and establishes a ban on outdoor work activities between 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM in construction sites, quarries, and agricultural enterprises when the risk of sun exposure is classified as “HIGH.” The decision arose from a meeting with trade unions and employers held on June 30.
The ordinance also refers to the Guidelines for the Protection of Workers from Heat, which were sent out on June 13. Activities deemed urgent and those of public utility are exempt from the ban, provided that appropriate preventive measures are implemented. The measure will be published in the Official Bulletin of the Region and communicated to various competent authorities to ensure compliance with the regulations. Violations will incur penalties in accordance with Article 650 of the Penal Code.
