The summer of 2025 has brought significant losses to the Trentino glaciers, with the Mandrone Glacier experiencing a melt of approximately 1.10 meters of water equivalent. Initial assessments conducted by the Forecasting and Planning Office of the Autonomous Province of Trento, in collaboration with various scientific organizations, have highlighted thickness losses ranging from 65 centimeters to 2.10 meters. The season has been particularly unfavorable for glacier preservation, despite some summer snowfall that partially mitigated melting at higher altitudes. The Careser Glacier has shown the most critical situation, with an early exposure of ice by mid-July due to high temperatures and low winter snowfall. Although the ice at higher elevations benefited from snow cover for most of the summer, heatwaves have still negatively impacted the overall balance. As measurements continue in the coming months, analyses confirm the alert regarding the melting of glaciers in the region. Italian Version
