A citizen of Moroccan descent residing in the Brescia area experienced a dramatic ordeal in his search for a rental home in Montichiari, where he fell victim to a 4,500 euro scam. The man had responded to an online advertisement for an apartment located on Via Mantova, and after communicating with someone he believed to be the owner, he sent documents and made payments to a Postepay account, accumulating a significant amount as a deposit for the rent. It was only later that he discovered the property did not exist and decided to contact the Carabinieri.
The investigations initiated by the military led to the identification of the person responsible for the scam: an Italian woman residing in Como. Thanks to the documents provided by the victim and the transactions made to the Postepay account, law enforcement was able to gather sufficient evidence to refer the woman to the Brescia Judicial Authority. This incident highlights the risks associated with rental scams, emphasizing the importance of always verifying the credibility of online real estate offers.
