In this tragic event, José Manuel Montilla, a 50-year-old man who had long been residing in the lakeside town and was employed at the Splendido Bay Luxury Resort, lost his life. Montilla was on vacation with his family and was inside the venue during the collapse, accompanied by his partner Lucy Amantina Castillo, who managed to escape with only minor injuries.
José’s funeral will take place tomorrow, Saturday, April 12, in Santo Domingo, while the overall toll of the tragedy has reached 225 victims and 189 injured. This disaster has prompted the government to declare three days of national mourning, highlighting the devastating impact of the incident not only on the Dominican Republic but also on the communities connected to those affected.
