Peschiera del Garda is at the center of an important discussion on overtourism, with Legambiente recently issuing a call to action during a meeting focused on the excessive influx of tourists in lakeside municipalities. During the Venetian leg of the national campaign Goletta dei Laghi, the organization presented ten proposals to address this phenomenon, aiming to promote sustainable development. Between 2014 and 2024, data shows a 27% increase in tourist arrivals across the 23 lakeside municipalities, with Peschiera experiencing a remarkable growth of 59%, highlighting the significant impact of tourism on the area.
The proposals put forward by Legambiente include the development of integrated access mobility and the regulation of short-term rentals, as well as the establishment of tourist carrying capacity. The ultimate goal is to actively engage residents and local operators in managing tourist influx, ensuring a balance between economic needs and environmental protection. Representatives from the organization emphasize the importance of reflecting on the current model of tourism development to build a more sustainable future for the region.
