An swarm of 80,000 bees invaded the exterior of a bar in the historic center of Peschiera del Garda on Wednesday, April 30, around noon, causing moments of panic among the tourists present. According to initial reports, a waiter or staff member attempted to disperse the bees by soaking some towels in olive oil and setting them on fire, resulting in the death of many insects. This behavior led to a complaint being filed with the prosecutor’s office, as bees are a protected species due to their crucial role in pollination.
A volunteer beekeeper from the S.O.S. Arav association intervened on-site to recover part of the swarm, while local police officers documented the incident. Gerardo Meridio, president of the Regional Beekeepers Association of Veneto, emphasized the importance of staying calm in such situations and contacting law enforcement or experts for the safe removal of swarms.
