Phone Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri Offering Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

They are not military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, ordinary police, fire brigade, or municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines unrelated to law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after receiving money, disappears without a trace.
