Phone Scams Pretending to Be Carabinieri Targeting Garda Businesses
They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to military magazines.
These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the city guards.
How to recognize scams and how to respond
They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the real Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after taking the money, disappear.
