Significant changes in public transportation in Lombardy have been announced to improve service quality, with a focus on fare integration and sustainable mobility. The regional government has initiated the process to update existing regulations, aiming for stronger governance by Regione Lombardia, which will distance itself from the TPL Agencies. Among the proposed measures is the introduction of an integrated digital ticketing system and support for disadvantaged areas, as well as a review of navigation regulations. The bill aims to create more effective coordination of services and establish a central system for collecting data on travelers.
The proposal also includes specific regulations for taxi and chauffeur-driven rental services (NCC), establishing uniform criteria at the regional level. According to President Attilio Fontana and the involved councilors, this reform represents a crucial step towards a more modern and efficient public transportation system that can meet citizens’ needs and promote increasingly sustainable mobility through fare integration. The proposal will now be examined by the regional council for final approval.
