A wounded golden eagle was rescued on Saturday, the 18th, along the trail leading to Monte Spino, in the Fobiola area. The bird of prey, with a fractured wing, was spotted by a hiker who promptly alerted the Provincial Police. A retired former officer, residing in the area, contacted the operators of the Pirlo Refuge to monitor the site until the arrival of the competent authorities, who secured the animal and transported it to the Wildlife Recovery Center (CRAS) in Valpredina, Cenate.
Upon arrival at the CRAS, veterinarians confirmed the fracture of the eagle’s right wing, which would have had little chance of survival had it not been rescued in time. After receiving the necessary care and undergoing a rehabilitation period, the bird will be able to return to the wild. The managers of the Pirlo Refuge expressed their gratitude to those who took action to save the eagle and shared the joy and concern felt during the rescue of the bird of prey, nicknamed “Pigna” in honor of the cyclist who raised the alarm.
