Lonato is preparing for a significant revamp of Piazza Corlo, with construction set to begin next Monday. This project aims to enhance the value of the Church of Corlo, a central feature of the historic center, and includes the removal of the roundabout around the columns to make way for a new flowerbed, where a tall tree will be planted. Work will commence on the northern side of the square, involving the resurfacing of approximately 650 square meters of asphalt. However, the project has raised concerns among residents and shopkeepers due to the reduction in parking spaces, which will decrease from thirteen to just five.
The closure of the northern section of the square will lead to changes in traffic patterns: access points will be reconfigured, and some nearby streets will allow passage only for residents. The issued ordinances outline alternative routes to reach parking facilities in the area. The first phase of the work is expected to last about 40 days, followed by an additional two to three months dedicated to the renovation of the stone pavement on the Verona side of Piazza Corlo.
