A tragic murder that took place in Riva del Garda has led to the decision not to prosecute Francesca Rozza for the killing of her mother, Maria Skvor, which occurred on February 28th of this year. According to a psychiatric evaluation from the court in Rovereto, the 61-year-old woman was suffering from a “structured persecutory delusion” at the time of the crime, which impaired her ability to understand and will her actions. The incident unfolded in a context of intense emotional dependence, with Rozza attacking her mother while she was asleep using a lamp and a knife, before suffocating her with a pillow. After unsuccessfully attempting suicide, she contacted emergency services, confessing to the murder.
The judge determined that Rozza requires medical care rather than criminal punishment, also highlighting a significant risk of future self-harming behaviors. Consequently, the investigating judge revoked her precautionary measure of house arrest in a healthcare facility, allowing the woman to continue her rehabilitation in a psychiatric residence.
